As Allyson studied Special Education at Ohio Wesleyan University, she began to grow a passion for learning more about faith, culture, and disabilities, and how those factors influence accessibility to education in resources globally. After completing a research project comparing Special Education practices from Ohio to Ireland, her love for travel and serving families abroad continued to grow. During her senior year of college, Allyson was introduced to New International at a conference, and was able to connect with a family in Chiang Mai, Thailand whose heart is for serving in various disability ministries.
Throughout the year following her college graduation in May of 2023, God continued to bring up the opportunity of serving in Thailand, and continued to provide as she took steps towards this opportunity. In August of 2024, she became an intern through New International, completing her first year teaching Special Education at Grace International School (GIS). She has remained in Thailand since 2024, and is now an New International Affiliate, continuing to serve as the RISE Classroom teacher, providing Individualized Learning Plans for both Third Culture Kids (TCKs) and Thai Students at GIS. Allyson also loves to partner alongside local disability ministries for events such as family retreats, Night to Shine, and sharing resources throughout the year.
Many Thai and International Christian Worker families impacted by disability have limited access to education, with missionary families often having to leave the field due to lack of education and resources in their host country. Providing an accessible, Christ-centered education to support these families is incredibly important, as individuals with disabilities are an indispensable part of the body of Christ. Allyson is incredibly grateful for the amazing partners who allow her to continue to do this work, grow in grace, and develop a greater dependence on an incredibly faithful God.
