Rhythms of Rest

Time spent meditating on God's Word and listening for His Spirit is what rejuvenates our abilities to love others and ourselves well

G’day friends! Team Oz has begun a bit of a different pace this past week, as we are in a 2-week school holiday. During this time, we have been able to invest in the friendships we have made while we have been here, as well as continue to explore our beautiful surroundings and enjoy the wildlife around us.

This week, we visited Caves Beach, which is a beautiful beach in Newcastle full of little caves and holes in the rocks to climb through! It is very important to be mindful of the tide at this beach though – otherwise you’ll go for a swim you didn’t plan on.

The same day, we also visited the Christ Church Cathedral, which is a beautiful Anglican church that dates back to the mid-1800’s. From the inside, you can clearly see all the intricate stained glass windows, most of which feature a particular saint. The cathedral is a quiet and serene place, and I enjoyed spending some moments in peaceful prayer while we were there.

My time in restful silence with God in the cathedral brings to mind a conversation our host Rob had with us recently. He was telling us how important it is to incorporate rhythms of rest into one’s life – because rest is what GIVES us life. Time spent meditating on God’s Word and listening for His Spirit is what rejuvenates our abilities to love others and ourselves well. At this point, we are well-settled into our daily routines here AND we are also a little extra tired as well. We would love your prayers for good rest as we finish our time here in Australia!
