New Life for Lost Treasures

“Jenn, your store feels different. You walk in and there is something you sense that's different than other places.”

The Fig Leaf Boutique has been up and running over a year now. We had our soft launch on December 5th, 2014 and we haven't looked back. We have had building remodels, a Grand Opening (July 14th), 2 summer interns, 4 volunteers and so many donations that it brings tears to my eyes as I type this. This boutique not only gives back to missions, we are able to tell our missionaries' stories and connect our customers to the heart of NMSI: to proclaim Christ and make disciples globally. We are also making an impact locally.

Once a month or so we are able to hand a group of brave ladies gift cards to our store. They are able to come in, shop, and take home an outfit or two. These ladies are coming out of trafficking and their stories are heartbreaking to say the least. But we serve a God of transformation and that is what we are seeing in the boutique. We get to see first-hand not only with the ladies that come in looking for clothes to make them feel pretty, but we see it in our customers. I see this most days in the boutique. This boutique is different and I am not saying that just because I manage it. We have a customer I call Ms. Bea. She comes in looking for new items and she spends a couple of hours with me just talking, trying on different clothing and jewelry pieces. One day as I was helping her carry out her bags she asked me why I thought she came to our store verses other ones. I smiled and said I wasn't sure. “Jenn, your store feels different. You walk in and there is something you sense that's different than other places.” I held back tears, hugged her, and thanked her. After she left I started to cry. That is exactly what we have prayed for in the boutique - that God would make Himself known there. We want to be a unique boutique, not with our items or marketing, but that when you walk through our doors you feel safe, accepted. We celebrate what God has done and will continue to do as we seek Him.
