Sky Full of Stars

Team Australia

Written by Delainey - Serving in Australia

In Australia, there were moments when God felt far, far away. I mean, I was in a different country, my friends and family weren’t around to celebrate my wins or comfort me on my hard days, and everything around me was a whole different culture. But in that space, I learned how to process the hard days and to build relationships with people who were present—people who were available and genuinely excited to share the wins with me.

God is so much bigger than I am, and that truth kept showing up throughout my time in Australia. More nights than not–no matter how late it was or how tired I felt–I was keen to go somewhere to look out over Newcastle and toward the ocean and the stars. On one side, it was bright and noisy, but when I turned my head toward the quiet ocean and the sky full of stars, I found space to connect with God: to debrief, to lament, and to be grateful. And every time, I came back to the same conclusion–God is so much bigger than I am, and when I took a jump, He was there to catch me, even when I was upset with Him. And I reckon He’ll do it again.
