Called to Serve

Team Middle East

Written by Rhonda - Working in the Middle East

The Christian Missionary Alliance Church here in the Middle East is truly an example of a call to serve the community. It sits in the center of a thriving community of shops, restaurants, and apartments.

Some verses come to mind as I intern here.

"Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many." - Matthew 20:28

There are a plethora of activities, meetings, and events taking place throughout the week. There is a non-formal grade 1-5 school that hosts 120 students as well as classes for children with special needs. There is also a soccer ministry, sewing and hair dressing courses for the women as well as mechanics and carpentry for the men, a photography course, and English classes. I’ve been a small part of teaching English and have been challenged teaching a young Arabic speaking women what the word “paradox” means — amongst other words as we read stories. I’m also a part of a home visitation program which touches my heart in a unique way as we sit on cushions on the floor and hear about the needs, hurts, wounds, and hopes from so many. They share their experiences of being displaced from their home, struggles to find work, get health care, etc. We supply food boxes, wheelchairs, and other needed items. It’s been very humbling to be a part of this ministry.

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of these brothers & sisters you did for me,” -Matthew 25:40
